Point Reyes and Whale Watching Driving north from San Francisco we decided to make a detour to Point Reyes. Little did we realise that it was whale watching season. Little did we realise how close to the shore they come. Although this photograph doesn't begin to convey how exciting it was, the spout of water in the middle is, in fact, a whale - honest, I promise. On the other hand, the fact that the Pernicious Penelope Playchute made me trudge all the way down to the Point Reyes lighthouse (and all the way back up again) was not very exciting. Did you know, there are 297 steps (and they don't count the bits where the path simply slopes).
