Well, it’s been a funny old year – no real great excursions to speak of but we are still as worn out and dilapidated as usual so we must be doing something right. In fact, this year some people seemed not to have realised that our invitation to visit was intended as a joke and Penelope’s Playchute Palace was actually full to capacity through much of the summer.

At Easter Greg visited his folks in Hanover, New Hampshire and, with the enthusiastic encouragement of his father, was able to participate in the “Great Restaurant Ramble” around New England – without Pen to keep him on the straight and narrow he ate more than his father and mother combined and had to pay excess weight charges on his flight home. His folks are now happily settled into their “Finishing School” at Kendall in Hanover which they find much to their satisfaction. It’s just down the road from brother Steph’s and only a couple of hours from Sandy at the Lake.

Pen, as well as continuing to keep SeamStress afloat with her pal, Sal, single-handedly completed the transformation/ hard landscaping of the back of the Playchute Palace. She laid and pointed paving slabs, ensured the raised vegetable beds were bountifully productive, constructed a new pond and supervised the erection of some Chinese lanterns to brighten many a most pleasant summer’s evening.
