The Adventures of Flat Stanley

Although not quite a ransom note, this arrived from Flat Stanley soon after his disappearance....

Dear Greg,

Just wanted you to know that I'm safe and sound in Portland, Oregon with your Aunt Susie and cousins Emily and David. It sure is rainy and wet here. Arizona was bright and sunny all the time. It's gray and cold here in Portland.

Emily is flying in from New York City tonight. She's been back east looking at colleges with your other cousin, Karin. She had a good time and has decided to go to Oberlin College in Ohio next year.

I understand your Dad is coming back to rescue me. Really, Aunt Susie has been really nice to me and they have 2 really sweet cats, Midnight and Tabby. Aunt Susie doesn't drink as much as Uncle Greg but she is still a lot of fun. I'm not so sure about all the fruits and vegetables and nuts this family eats, however...and it's all organic. Susie likes things simple and easy.

Mostly I've been going back and forth on the bus to school with Aunt Susie. It's a good thing I wasn't with her on the day her purse/school bag was stolen! I'm sure I could have escaped but I wouldn't have been able to find my way back to her house. She's OK but her teachers aren't giving her an easy time on her assignments. They must be thinking it's just an excuse like, "my dog at my homework" or "my computer crashed".

Well I look forward to your Dad's visit next week It sure is nice of him to come and get me. I'm really glad I don't have to go back home in the mail. I wonder if your Dad flies first class? I sure will be glad to see you. Have you missed me?

See you soon,

Your pal

Flat Stanley
