I was recovering from surgery when a charity representative phoned asking me to take part in a door-to-door fund-raising effort.<\/p>\n
“Sorry,” I replied, “but I’ve been incapacitated.”<\/p>\n
Undaunted, the caller kept trying to convince me to change my mind and volunteer.<\/p>\n
I interrupted and said, “I’m incapacitated. Do you know what that means?”<\/p>\n
She hesitated. “It means your head was cut off?”<\/p>\n
Her minister told an eighty-year-old woman that, at her age, she should be giving some thought to what he called \u201cthe hereafter.\u201d She said to him, \u201cI think about it many times a day.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, really?\u201d said the minister. \u201cThat is very wise.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not a matter of wisdom,\u201d she replied. \u201cIt\u2019s when I open a drawer or a closet, I ask myself, \u2018What am I here after?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
One woman was talking to her friend, “You should listen to my neighbor,” she says. “She is always bad-mouthing her poor husband behind his back. I think that’s so rude. Look at me! My husband is fat, lazy and cheap; but have you ever heard me say a bad word about him?”<\/p>\n
