This from Dad:<\/p>\n
A nice, calm and respectable lady went into the pharmacy, walked up to the pharmacist, looked straight into his eyes, and said, “I’d like to buy some cyanide.”<\/p>\n
The pharmacist asked, “Why in the world do you need cyanide?”<\/p>\n
The lady replied, “I need it to poison my husband.”<\/p>\n
The pharmacist’s eyes got big and he explained, “Lord have mercy!\u00a0 I can’t give you cyanide to kill your husband, that’s against the law! I’ll lose my license! They’ll throw both of us in jail! All kinds of bad things will happen. Absolutely not! You CANNOT have any cyanide!”<\/p>\n
The lady reached into her purse and pulled out a picture of her husband in bed with the pharmacist’s wife.<\/p>\n
The pharmacist looked at the picture and said, “Well, why didn\u2019t you tell me you had a prescription?”<\/p>\n
I\u2019ve seen a number of variations on the following theme but there’s no denying the logic – it must be true:<\/p>\n
For a couple years I’ve been blaming it on lack of sleep and too much pressure from my job, but now I found out the real reason: I’m tired because I’m overworked.<\/p>\n
The population of this country is 237 million. 104 million are retired. That leaves 133 million to do the work.<\/p>\n
There are 85 million in school, which leaves 48 million to do the work.<\/p>\n
Of this there are 29 million employed by the federal government, leaving 19 million to do the work.<\/p>\n
2.8 million are in the Armed Forces, which leaves 16.2 million to do the work.<\/p>\n
Take from the total the 14,800,000 people who work for State and City Governments and that leaves 1.4 million to do the work.<\/p>\n
At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals, leaving 1,212,000 to do the work.<\/p>\n
Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons.<\/p>\n
That leaves just two people to do the work. You and me. And you’re sitting at your computer reading jokes.<\/p>\n
Our first day at a resort, my wife and I decided to hit the beach. When I went back to our room to get something to drink, one of the hotel maids was making our bed. I grabbed my cooler, but not being sure of the hotel rules I stopped at the door and asked the maid, “Can we drink beer on the beach?”<\/p>\n
“Sure,” the maid replied, “but I have to finish the rest of the rooms first.”<\/p>\n
