Good morning to you all on what I hope is a pleasantly autumnal morning (apart, of course, from those of our friends living in the southern hemisphere where we trust it is a gorgeously delightful spring-like day). Certainly here autumn is creeping in as the days get shorter and the nights longer, although it has been and is still pleasantly mild. We’ve had a somewhat mixed week, both in terms of the weather we’ve been enduring and the activities we’ve been subjected to. Continue reading “6 October 2013”

Good morning – hope you’ve all had a splendidly splendid week. Our Autumn colour (such as we get it here) is starting to show itself – our Boston Ivy went from deep green to bright red in about six days. The weather similarly has felt decidedly Autumnal, if perhaps somewhat warmer than might be anticipated. We’ve had damp, foggy mornings followed by pleasantly warm afternoon sunshine (sometimes). Good morning to you all. Thankfully, we’re more or less over our jet lag and so back on to a somewhat regular routine. We’ve had a great week – the weather has been excellent most of the time – warm and sunny with clear skies until Friday when it was overcast with some drizzle while the temperature dropped about 20 degrees. It was clear again on Saturday but still significantly cooler than it had been all week. Looks like this could be the end of the summer! Continue reading “8 September 2013”

1 September 2013

Good morning from beautiful, downtown Byfield and profound apologies for the interruption in our regularly scheduled service. As I warned you last time, we’ve been in the States for most of August and although I had great intentions, you will not be surprised to learn that there were simply too many distractions for me to put my good intentions into practice.

Naturally, the complaints have been flooding in to the relevant department here at the Befouled Weakly News which have been dealt with in the usual manner – by ignoring them. There were even complaints from those who were on holiday with us! Continue reading “1 September 2013”

Well, the world has gone mad! One could be forgiven for thinking that the new royal prince was the second coming to listen to the walls of media coverage we’ve had to endure. In fact, it’s just a young couple having a baby. We’re all pleased for them, I’m sure but isn’t the non-stop, 24/7 media onslaught just a bit much, or am I being cynical?

The week's weather

Are you kidding me? While some of the rest of you have been enduring torrential downpours and burst beaver dams, we have been enjoying some of the finest weather to visit these shores in a very, very long time. Somewhat like waiting for a bus, I suppose – you wait years for a decent summer’s day and then ten or fifteen come along in a row! Continue reading “21 July 2013”

It was true! The weather forecast for this past week said we would have some lovely and gloriously warm sunshine and that’s what we had! What are the chances of that? It’s been largely sunny and warm (some amongst us might even categorise the temperature as “hot” but I think that’s taking things a step too far). Pleasantly warm, yes, but perhaps not quite yet “hot”.

This week's weather

And, they say it’s going to last a while longer! Excellent. Continue reading “14 July 2013”

7 July 2013

As many of you know, I gather bits and pieces for the Weakly News throughout the week and on Friday or Saturday I begin the task of pulling it all together. Yesterday, when I began this week’s edition, the weather was pretty decent so I thought I would check out the forecast for the days to come on the BBC weather site. Can this possibly be true?

Weather

27o C is a whopping 81o Fahrenheit! Whew! Continue reading “7 July 2013”
